ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Healdsburg Elementary School is a TK-5 school on two campuses. Healdsburg Elementary School (HES) serves students in transitional-kindergarten through second grade and Fitch Mountain Campus (FMC) serves students in grades third through fifth. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation to meet the needs of all of our students. At our TK-2 campus, students have one teacher and in grades 3-5 we use a specialization model where all students have two teachers; one Humanities Specialist and one STEM Specialist. The Humanities teacher focuses on language arts and social studies and the STEM teacher primarily focuses on math and science with technology and engineering infused in the curriculum as much as possible.

In all grades, we use a Station Rotation model where our students rotate through learning stations working in small groups, both individually and teacher directed to provide a personalized approach that is differentiated for each student. This approach results in more student interaction and production and thus improves student engagement dramatically. All students engage in Project Based Learning designed to provide students opportunities for inquiry, problem solving and collaboration in Social Studies and Science.

Proven English Language Development strategies and methods that help in the development of reading, writing and speaking for our English learners are employed in all of our classrooms.

Core academics are strengthened with an enrichment program during the school day for all students. Weekly enrichment classes allow students to explore activities such as music, art, chess, nutrition/garden and fitness.

Healdsburg Elementary School, in partnership with families and the Healdsburg community, creates a learning environment where all students are expected to achieve excellence in academics. Students develop socially and emotionally within a safe and nurturing environment where they are supported in their development as young learners.

We are a committed Environmental Education Pathways School presented through SEEC. With the help of the Sonoma Environmental Education Collaborative (SEEC), we are working with multiple partner organizations to create connected learning across all grades. This means that we are offering our students in every grade, hands-on outdoor education experiences that build upon each other-- bringing the classroom out into nature! Whether it is learning about our local watershed, habitats, or climate change, our students are gaining the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become the next generation of stewards!

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT

HES/FMC has a school climate that is supportive of every student’s right to learn and play in an environment that is free from outside interference and harm. The school community also values a philosophy of reinforcing and modeling positive behavior in order that such desired behavior becomes habit in each student.

Students are supported by a school-wide Positive Behavior Support and we focus on three main ideas: We are Safe, We are Responsible, We are Respectful.

Our adopted Social-Emotional curriculum is called RULER and focuses on building student’s understanding of their different emotions and how to recognize, express and regulate them.
